I was looking for a way to 3d print a 3d topographical map, and found an older post on matterhackers.  Unfortunately, those instructions didn’t work, and were quite complicated even if they did work.

Here’s a much easier solution:

Get the  SRTM elevation data directly from the SRTM Data site.

Download a zip file, for example this one of the SF Bay area (and most of California).

Inside there is a TIFF file.  Use your favorite bitmap editor to crop to the area you like, and save as a bitmap file.

Then, simply open in cura and create gocde directly!  It’s just too simple.
