I had a bowling alley down the street from my house when I was a kid.  My brother and I ended up spending a lot of time there playing pinball.  Some bowling, but mostly pinball.  I used to tell my parents that I was ‘improving my hand-eye coordination’.  I was half serious, but I don’t think they ever bought it.  I said the same thing when we got video games at our house.

A new study in Nature Neuroscience shows that video games really can have a lasting improvement on certain cognative skills.  I’m sure that my fast typing speed has something to do with my pinball skills.
